On this second page, you will see Armenian
rugs with more geometric patterns for which the Caucasian Rugs are
celebrated for . These are highly stylized ornaments, somewhat
abstract symbols from Pagan, Zoroastrian or old Christian belief
systems; we see stars, amulets, human or animal figures, abstract
patterns representing or imitating external reality or the objects
of nature. emotions--happiness or sorrow. Birds, snakes, dragons,
and other mythological animals as guardians. Trees of lives
illustrating their family members. Herbs, flowers and leaves,
signifying health and prosperity. Four equally divided crosses that
represent four direction of the world, four seasons of the year,
four stages of man, the four weeks of the full cycle of the moon,
four basic elements that the world made of i.e.. Earth, wind, water
and fire, or any significant object. Important events are marked by
dates, names and or initials; a wedding, birth of a child, a death
or any other celebration of an event that marked an important time
in their lives.
These fine, naive hand woven are
utilitarian art forms of objects are created for daily use and
ornament, their artistic expressions reflect the very inner emotions
of the weaver and hence they are as unique as their creators...

Here is an example of an inscribed commemorative, a famus
design among Caucasian rug collectors, rugs with this particular
pattern usually have 2 or 3 medallions but this is an elongated
version consists of five and a half medallions on a saturated Madder
root red field. The "filler elements" all over the open
field–stylized human and mythical animal figures add a charm and
personality to the over all composition. Proportionately drawn and
harmoniously colored and well balanced rug.

Description: Bordjalu
is the most northerly town of Kazak district. Here is an
exceptionally fine example exhibiting a well balanced, boldly drawn
repeated composition of 3-polygon medallions on a multi shades of
rich red field. The most striking features of Kazak rugs are their
thick, lustrous wool, and naive design, The widely differing
brilliant polychrome color tonality of the field creates a depth and
the illusion of floating medallions.

Description:
The beauty of this rug lies in it's simplicity--repeated
paisley leaves on a saturated red field. It appears that the weaver
made a creative effort to "hide" part of the inscription
by incorporating the letters in the trellis rose border design.
